Role Summary:
The System Engineer/Senior Consultant handles a variety of roles ranging from design & installation of complex networks to assessing and recommending security solutions for the networks. The role involves pre-sales support including project definition, scoping/sizing, analysis of technical alternatives, and the presentations and/or proposal of results. The primary role will be to design, install, and integrate complex systems, working with clients and vendors to find cost-effective solutions, utilizing varying tools/hardware and software alternatives. The position will include opportunities to mentor other team members including client personnel. This position may serve in either an individual or team environment with the potential of serving in varying capacities including technical project leadership, depending on the needs of the project and the team (client and internal).
Primary Tasks:
- Design and install complex networks, working with clients and vendors to find cost-effective solutions.
- Troubleshoot operational problems by using a variety of hardware/software troubleshooting techniques
- Evaluate new hardware and network software products to determine possible use by clients
- Document all additions, deletions, and changes to local area networks; create network documentation and user guides
- Complete all assigned projects within time estimates for projects and complete all projects within Oakwood/client established quality standards and guidelines
- Develop and maintain expertise in one or more of Oakwood’s product and service offerings
- Audit, assess and recommend changes to client networks and security.
- Support sales effort through sales calls, proposal writing and proposal presentation
- Provide project status updates to sales, management, and client contacts
- Utilize all resources both internal and external to resolve project issues in a timely manner
- Devise, document and deploy Disaster Recovery and Business continuity solutions
- Maintain client files
- Provide research data and other types of support to staff and clients
- Provide telephone support for previous projects and clients
- Support and maintain Oakwood’s core values and purpose
- Develop, expand and maintain customer relationships
- Report consulting and non-billable time on a timely basis
- Promote Oakwood within the community
Required Skills and Experience:
- Over 7 years of practical experience in infrastructure work with previous consulting experience preferred
- Certification as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) is preferred. Consideration given to comparable work experience.
- Certification as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) is preferred. Consideration will be given to candidates with comparable work experience.
- Diverse technical background with experience in various roles, platforms, architectures, packages and technologies
- Proven track record in core skills for infrastructure, centering around customer, project and client/staff deliverables
- Professional image and demeanor with the ability to present oneself in a consultative, confident manner while treating clients and team members with the highest level of professionalism
- Possess an entrepreneurial nature with the capability to understand multiple facets of a business environment along with an interest in contributing to Oakwood Systems Group, Inc.
- Ability to communicate effectively with different levels of management, as well as both the business and technical communities
- Strong career interest with a focus on professional improvement
- Exposure to leadership role a plus
- Minimum of Bachelors Degree preferred
- Strong verbal/written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to be productive independently and/or as a team member
- Strong presentation skills preferred
- Diverse understanding of industry based tools, software and techniques
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and analytical skills
- Demonstrated understanding of basic estimating procedures, capable of assembling a basic project plan and good work tracking habits
- In depth knowledge of Microsoft platforms including Active Directory, Exchange Server, Systems Center, and ISA Server
- Working knowledge of Cisco solutions a plus
- Diverse exposure to industries, solutions (i.e. eBusiness, DW, CRM, etc.) and platforms a plus
- Open to the potential for travel
